Synergy Arts Week
Our Synergy Week was created in response to a staff audit relating to Arts provision within the school. The project aimed to develop a more cross-curricular, pupil-led approach to Arts education, placing a greater emphasis on the creative process. We found that this approach resulted in authentic art pieces over which pupils felt a strong sense of ownership.
The project became a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, including the teaching staff. The teachers were encouraged to facilitate, rather than instruct, in order to harness pupils' ideas. The teachers were impressed by the wealth of ideas generated within their classes and used these ideas to propel the project forward. This resulted in more pupil-driven outcomes rather than reproducing ideas from the staff or from famous artists.
Synergy Week was developed in line with Artsmark criteria. We hope that the resources on this page will inspire other teachers to develop more pupil-led art projects within their own schools and that it provides ideas for others working towards the achievement of Artsmark status.
