Redbridge Schools' Choral Festival 2018
Redbridge Schools' Choral Festival 2018 at the Royal Albert Hall
Music was my refuge.
I could crawl into the space between the notes
and curl my back to loneliness.
~ Maya Angelou
This year, we have been delighted to once more represent our school in the Redbridge Schools' Choral Festival which took place at the Royal Albert Hall in March 2018. The festival, which was two years in the planning was this year entitled Past Present Future and celebrated some of the defining moments of 20th century including the impact of the British Suffragette Movement, the First World War and the struggle for civil rights for all.
In singing these songs, the children had opportunities, not only to develop their musicianship skills, but also to reflect on different aspects of the human experience - what it means to be a part of this world, this country, this city, this community; and in thinking about the past, the children also began to think about their futures - what the world would be like one hundred years from now and what their own personal futures hold.
Cleveland Road Primary School is proud to have a strong and lasting partnership with Redbridge Music Service, the lead organisation for North East London Music Education Hub. RMS works closely with our school to provide whole-class instrumental tuition (African drumming (djembe)), orchestral leadership and instrumental tuition to small groups and individuals in guitar, brass, strings and woodwind.
For details of all the services provided, you can visit the RMS website using the link below. We would encourage parents to get their children involved in the many after-school groups offered to children across the spectrum of ages and abilities. Taking part in these additional clubs, performance groups and lessons will increase the children's confidence and give them opportunities to make music with other young people and to perform in front of various audiences.
