Following on from our success with the Take One Picture project last year, at the end of which, our pupils' work was exhibited at the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, we have been developing work in response to the gallery's latest selection from their vast collection of beautiful paintings.
This year’s painting is An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump by Joseph Wright of Derby. The children have been looking closely at this painting, finding out more about the painter, posing questions about the work and creating cross-curricular responses. Over several weeks, they developed their ideas and created pieces of art inspired by this painting.
They curated their own exhibition at October half term, and presented their work to all who visited. From Reception to Year 6, pupils stood up with their work, explaining with great articulation and confidence, how it was inspired by the painting and the processes they went through in order to achieve the final outcomes.
We have already had some incredibly positive responses from the National Gallery, to our work, and will let you know, in due course, whether any of the pieces have been selected for next year's exhibition.
